The surrounding area is beautiful with views of the
Pyrenees and the
lake from the garden. We have provided bikes big and small as well as a carriage so that you can explore. The welcome pack includes a list of local markets so that you always have somewhere new to buy your local produce.
The local
auberge has a fantastic local menu and is only 3 mins by car. There is a market most mornings in one of the local towns; Campuzan, Galan, Lannemezan, Castelnau and
Trie, all within 15 mins, which are full of delicious local produce and wine and every weekend in the Summer, they take turns to hold antique markets. One of our favourite restaurants is in the medieval town of
Tillac and their food and service is unmissable although the restaurants in
Auch run a close second.
The nearest town, Trie, has a traditional french village centre, with restaurants and boulangerie as well as an award winning pizzeria. There are 4 great
golf courses nearby including the first to be laid out in Europe by the British, In the majestic town of
Pau. There is a thermal
spa in Val louron (45 mins away) and
massage and reflexology in Trie. There is an outdoor
high wire activity centre (40 mins away), a
waterpark in Mirande (30 mins drive) and 700yds away there is a huge lake which supports a nature reserve. Every July and August the historic town of
Marciac plays host to its jazz festival, Luchon hosts the
jazz cordee in March and the
Tour de France travels through the area every July. Spain and tapas are an hour away,
Biarritz is well worth the 2 hour drive, (its beach have been voted
France's best by Trip advisor) and the mountains are fantastic and offer an amazing and accessible day trip from the farmhouse. Toulouse
indoor market is a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach and the city is famous for its beautiful pink brick buildings. Albi, the birthplace of
Henri Toulouse Lautrec is a breath taking bastide town with a renaissance style palace, home to the
Toulouse-Lautrec museum.
